Although we are going to celebrate Kajari teej on August 22, 2024.

My childhood memory of Kajari teej

When I was a child, I remember my paternal grandmother (Dadi) used to give gifts and cash to my mother on this day. And, all our cousins (a total of six girls) from the family used to get gifts on Hariyali teej from Dadi.

Additionally, we used to had swings tied on the Neem tree at our courtyard. And, we all used to giggle and have fun whole day.

Apparently, she used to treat her daughters and daughters-in-law at an equal scale. For her, daughters-in-law were also her real daughters from another womb. Her love and affection for my mother and my paternal aunts was unmatched. Although she studied only till class 5, her viewpoints and approach towards life were far more modern than ours. She used to tell us that Boorhi Teej is for the married counterparts. And, it used to be a day totally devoted to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati with day long fast. And for kids like us, it used to be a day filled with lots of Ghewar and pheerni, indian dessserts popularly made during Shravan mas and Bhadrpada mas.

Rituals and traditions

Indeed, no Hindu festival is complete without rituals and traditions. For many people, rituals and traditions are seen as roadblocks towards modernity. However, I believe in passing on the beautiful heritage of rituals and festivals to the future generation with a sense of love and kindness. Similarly, list of rituals is given below :

  • Just like Karwa Chauth, women wake up early in the morning to have healthy breakfast from husband. As it is called sargi in karwachauth. Consequently, it is called Dhammori in Kajali teej. Then after a strict fast is observed and ends at the moonrise in the evening after giving arghya to the Lord Moon.
  • Indeed, hindu god Shiva and Parwati are worshipped on this day. At many places, nimri mata is worshipped. Women gather at a place, to worship Neem branch as Nimri mata in middle of an artificially made water body for worship rituals.
  • In addition to, women apply henna on their hands and adorned with jewellery and traditional Indian attires.

Conclusion

Thus at the end, I would recommend my readers to witness the audacity of this grand festival of love and devotion on August 22, 2024 with faith and sincerity to cherish the vivacity of our rich Indian culture.

Keep growing and reading with us.
