Introduction of Hartalika Teej

Hartalkia teej is celebrated for the longevity of children and husbnad by Indian married woman. Infact, it is celebrated with great fun and glee. Hindu girls observe this fast for commencement of marital contentment and progeny.

Although, Hartalika is the Hindi word made from Haran and alika. Haran means abduction and alika means female friend. As per popular belief, once Goddess Parvati abducted Shailaputri, the daughter of Himalaya. On the suggestion of Narada, her father promised her hand in marriage to Lord Vishnu. But Parvati did not agree with her father’s decision so her friend took Parvati to a dense forest so that her father would not marry her against her will.

Additionally, it is celebrated widely in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Date and tithi

Indeed, it is celebrated on tritiya (third) day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrpada month of Hindu Panchang. This year we are going to celebrate it on September 6, 2024.

Likewise the shubh muhurat for Hartalika teej Vrat puja will start at 6:02 AM on September 6, and will continue till 8:24 AM on September 6, 2024.

Significance of Hartalika teej 2024

Infact, this festival holds great relevance for married woman. Further, it symbolises the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. These women perform puja and fasting with utmost devotion to be blessed with fortune, divine blessings and longevity of their consort.

However, it is celebrated to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati as Gauri Shankar at many places. Also this fast is observed for 24 hours.

Rituals and traditions of Hartalika teej 2024

  1. On this auspicious, women and girls wake up early in the morning and have bathing rituals.
  2. Moreover, women wear red colour clothes and adorned themselves with 16 shringaar items.
  3. Further, people do decorate puja stool and place it in puja room. Then after place a clean red colour clothes over it.
  4. In addition to, place an idol of Gauri Shankar or make one with clay.
  5. Adorned them with flowers and shringaar. Recite Katha and offer aarti to the deity.
  6. Lastly, distribute the prasadam.
