Generally, a girl child has her left side ear pierced first and a boy has his right side ear pierced first. Eventually the reason is that there are muscles and nerves in our ear lobes that are connected to our ears which if pierced properly will lead to increase in hearing capacity of the child.

Why is it important to have pierced ear?

a) Ancient scriptures suggests that if person who has not done ear piercing will not be able to perform the last rites or antim sanskara of his or her deceased relative.
