Yogini Ekadashi 2024

We are back with the updates on the upcoming Yogini Ekadashi 2024. This Yogini Ekadashi falls in the Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month. Yogini Ekadashi 2024 is dedicated to the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Brahman Vamana. Fasting observed on this day by devotees of the Hindu God Vishnu is known as Yogini Ekadashi vrat.

Story of Yogini Ekadashi 2024 Vrat

Once King Yudhisthira requested Lord Krishna to narrate the story or katha of Yogini Ekadashi 2023 vrat. Lord Krishna began by highlighting the value of Yogini Ekadashi in all Lokas

As mentioned in Puranas, king Kuber ruled the kingdom of Alkapuri. Kuber was a devotee of Lord Shiva. Hemamali was in his service and had a beautiful wife named Vishalakshi. Hemamali was a Yaksha who used to bring flowers to worship.

One day when he was getting flowers for the worship, he did not go to the King’s court. He went to his wife and spent time with her. He forgot to reach the kingdom with flowers on time.

And here, King was waiting for him till afternoon. After that King Kuber was very angry and ordered his sevaks to look for Hemamali. Sevaks went in search of Hemamali who was enjoying it with his wife. Sevaks informed this to King Kuber.

Subsequently, Hemamali was brought to the king’s court. Hemamali was extremely afraid of the king’s anger. King Kuber shouted at Hemamali for spoiling his worship of Lord Shiva. King Kuber shouted at Hemamali for spoiling his worship of Lord Shiva. King then cursed Hemamali to get parted from his wife and suffer a painful disease.

Instantly, he came to earth and started living a painful life. But, by Lord Shiva’s grace, his memory was not erased and he remembered his previous life.

Now, while living a painful life he remembered his sinful deed. He then started heading towards Mt. Himachal.

Along with all suffering he reached the cottage of Sage Markandeya. The charisma of the sage was truly divine and the aura inside his cottage seemed to be like Brahma lok itself.

Further, he went to the sage and explained all his sufferings. He told them about past acts, curses, and diseases to the sage. On hearing Hemamali, sage Markandeya advised him to observe Yogini Ekadashi vrat.

So, Hemamali observed Yogini Ekadashi vrat with all the rituals of Ekadashi. As a result of the vrat (fasting), all the sins of Hemamali disappeared. Later, after the vrat Hemamali got back to his original personality and got rid of the cursed disease. He also got back to his wife and lived a happy life thereafter.

At last, Lord Krishna expressed that the result of Yogini Ekadashi vrat is equivalent to feeding 88000 Brahmins. Moreover, devotees become liable to heaven and attain salvation.
