What is Rama Ekadashi 2024?

Rama Ekadashi is a Hindu fasting day (ekadashi) observed in honor of Lord Vishnu, one of the major deities in Hinduism.

Infact it is considered as most sacred and fortunate Ekadashi. On keeping fast on this Ekadashi, a person can get rid of all the sins (including brahm hatya) of this material world. Indeed, one can attain a spiritual world at the end of his life.

Date of Rama Ekadashi

As per Hindu Panchang, this ekadashi falls on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Krishan Paksha of Kartik Mas.

And, this year we are going to celebrate Rama Ekadashi on 28 October 2024. The Ekadashi titthi will start at 5:23 AM on 27 October 2024 and end at 10:41AM on 28 October 2024.

Although, the Prahana time will start at 6:31 AM till 7:50 AM on 29 October 2024.

Significance of Rama Ekadashi

Particularly, Ekadashi is also known as Rambha Ekadashi or Kartik Krishna Ekadashi as it falls in the month of Kartik. Apparently Hindu devotees observe this day with fasting and prayers dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Although, ancient text suggests that observing Rama Ekadashi vrat help a devotee in achieving spiritual purification, forgiveness of sins and seeking blessings from Lord Vishnu. Also it is advised for a harmonious and virtuous life.

Rituals of Rama Ekadashi

Like many Ekadashi, fasting is a common practice on this day. Following are the rituals one need to follow on the day:

  • Firstly, wake up early and have bathing rituals.
  • Secondly, clean up the home and puja room or the place where one will perform puja rituals.
  • Thirdly, take an idol or an image of Hindu God Vishnu and give a holy bath with panchamrit.
  • Then after, place it on a wooden stool or a place above sitting area.
  • Further, offer flowers, garland , indian delcacy( kheer of milk and dry fruits) and tulsi to the idol of Lord Vishnu.
  • Moreover always chant Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaye whole day.
  • Notably devotee should always worship Lord Vishnu by lighting diya and recite Vishnu Sahasranaam and Shri Hari Stotram.
  • After observing day long fast break your fast with fruits and milk products.
  • Subsequently, many people abstain from grains, beans, rice and certain foods.
  • Finally, do not indulge in prohibited acts like drinking alcohol and eating non-veg food items on Ekadashi.

Thus, Rama Ekadashi provides an opportunity to devotees to reflect on the life and teachings of Lord Vishnu and strengthen their devotion to him. It’s a significant Ekadashi for those who revere Lord Vishnu as a symbol of righteousness and virtue.
