My perspective on Jaya Ekadashi

In my opinion, more than a religious pursuit, observing fast gives you more power to control your senses. Furthermore, by refraining oneself from food and water, one focus on other non materialistic aspects of life. Lord Vishnu is epitome of non attachment, truth and meditation. Even, in images and idols, you will find Hindu god Vishnu in Yoga nidra (closed eyes and meditating). He guides us to live amidst worldly attachments and materialistic pleasures without getting attached to them.

Meanwhile, I try to focus on finding solace within myself on a fast day. I can easily introspect to evaluate my karma and behavior. Similarly, if you try observing a fast on Ekadashi, you will feel the same.

In addition to this, our sages and scholars understood the relevance of fasting on Ekadashi. As we all know, our atmosphere and biological clocks are influenced by the movements of the Sun and moon. Hence, Ekadashi is the day when atmospheric pressure is at its lowest level, resulting in discomfort and uneasiness in the human body.

Indeed, Ekadashi vrats hold great importance in maintaining the balance of the body, providing resting time for digestion, and enhancing mood and clarity in the mind and thought process.
