Introduction

Shravan Mas or sawan ka mahina or Shrawan month is like a celebration in hindu panchang. This month has many festivals. And, this time we are going to celebrate shravan mas in a special way. Thus, there is an opportunity to impress Lord Shiva in shravan mas for worshipping the deity. Already, Mahadev is the Hindu god who gets impress easily. He holds foremost position in Hinduism.

What is Shravan Mas?

As per legends, during samundra manthan (churning of ocean), when all the demons and gods were fighting for elixir. Halahal poison came out. It made a severe and dangerous effect on whole universe. Also, it was death and misery everywhere.

And, to stop this destruction, Lord Shiva drank this poison. As a result, Lord Shiva got his neck blue, given the name Neelkanth Mahadev. Afterwards, the poison was harsh on Mahadev. To counter attack the effect of poison, Lord Indra (god of rains) rained it for whole month.

Eventually, the effect of poison was coming down. But, tremendous rains were sight of danger for the Earth.

At this point, Lord Shiva crowned the Moon on his head to save the world from destruction. As moon is the carrier of coldness.

Hence, this whole month is called Shravan mas. From here, it is believed that shravan mas is best for jalabhishek of Mahadev. Lord Mahadev gives away happiness and abundance in return of your sorrows and pains.

Why Lord Shiva is associated with Shravan Mas 2024?

During shravan mas, every day and every moment is to endeavour happiness, fulfilment of wishes, acquisition of holy deeds and to eradicate the bad effects from horoscopes.

This month holds utmost importance for bringing up the prosperity and peace in life. Our holy texts suggests that not only Mondays but also Purnimas and Amavasyas are also very significant in Shravan Mas.

Interesting Facts about Lord Shiva

a) However, Lord Shiva is Anant and aadi means he is the point from where the universe started and he has no end. Lord Shiva has great mention in Shiv Purana, Skand Purana, Agni Purana, Garuna Purana, and Kalika Purana.

b) Infact great poet Tulsidas believed Lord Shiva as faith and Goddess Parvati as adoration. Similarly, Yajurveda defines Lord Shiva as Shiv, Shambhu and Shankar. Shiv means auspicious and Shambhu means who is born on his own and Shankar means giver of bliss.

c) Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are greatly adored and worshipped in this month by large number of devotees. Gauri Shankar is the name given to the couple. We are going to talk about mangla gauri vrat soon in our upcoming blogs.

d) Subsequently, Lord Shiva holds a great value in Shravan Mas. Devotees perform puja, observe fasts, offer water to Lord Shiva and listens to Shiv Purana, Shiv strota to get spiritual awakening.

How to worship Lord Shiva in Shravan Mas 2024?

i) First of all, devotees should wake up early and take bath.

ii) Secondly, devotees should take a sankalp to observe fasts on Mondays with sincerity and devotion. Only satwik food is allowed. Consumption of onion, garlic, non-veg items, alcohol and tamsik food is prohibited.

iii) Thirdly, devotees also perfom Rudra abhishekam on Shivling.

iv) Fourthly, they offer Bilva patras to Lord Shiva. Belpatra or bilva patras is considered to be favourite leaves of the deity.

v) Additionally, Lord Shiva is offered datura flowers, aakmadha flowers, kamal ghatta during puja.

vi) Devotees are advised to offer jalabhishejkam or gangajal to lord Shiva to get happiness and prosperity in life.

vii) Further, to counter the bad effects of different planets in horoscope, natives are advised to offer milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar and akshat (rice) to Lord Shiva.

viii) Lord Shiva is known for his longing for Bhang. Hence, people also offer bhang leaves or bhang paste to Shivling.

ix) Many people are advised to offer itra and sandalwood to lord Shiva to get a luxurious life.

x) It is always advised that one should always chant panchakshariye mantra to get the blessings of deity. It is believed to get rid of health ailments or any chronic disease, one must chant Mahamritunjay mantra

Lord Shiva is called Mahakal as he has won over death. Five parts of kaal are tithi, vaar, nakshatra, yog and karak are components of lord Shiva.
