Yoga is a well known word in modern times. Yoga comes from Sanskrit word yog means to harness. Also, Yoga is a gift of ancient India to the world. It has its roots deeply rooted in Hinduism.

Moreover, yoga keeps a balance between mind, body and soul. Again, it keeps a check and balance between all the five elements of our body via water, Earth, air, fire and sky. We can trace its mention in Rigveda and Puranas.

And, Lord Shiva is considered as the biggest adiyogi of the times. Yoga is practiced with variety of methods and techniques all around the world. In Hinduism, these practices includes karma yoga, bhakti yoga, kundalini yoga and hath yoga.

Even a yogi (a male practioner) or yogini (a female practioner) can not seperate yoga and spirituality. Indeed, spirituality is a connection of soul to the higher reality. We have a blog dedicated to spirituality . Besides, spirituality is more than finding your true self. One find inner peace and cultivate brain and body towards mindfulness.

Yoga and spirituality are inter-related practices results in holistic well being and personal growth.

However, the practice of yoga makes one physically stronger, flexible, more mentally clear and emotionally balanced person. Even, yoga has Asanas (physical posture) Pranayama’s (breathing exercises and techniques) and Dhayana (meditation) that aims to harmonize the body, mind and soul.

On the other hand, spirituality refers to the inner exploration and connection to a higher divine power. Also, one seeks a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life. It involves seeking and nurturing a sense of transcendence, inner peace and personal growth.

Combining Yoga and Spirituality

Spirituality is pursued through meditation, prayer, mindfulness, practicing silence or engaging in rituals practices (prayers and group chants). Likewise, it makes a connection with oneself and the universe.

When combined, yoga and spirituality form a powerful synergy. Yoga provides a pathway for physical and mental well-being, while spirituality adds a deeper dimension by addressing the spiritual aspects of life.

Meanwhile, the practice of yoga can enhance one’s spiritual journey. Yoga helps in promoting self-awareness, self-realization, and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all beings. Similarly, Yoga and spirituality together offer tools for personal transformation, inner harmony and the exploration of truths about existence and the nature of consciousness.

  • Regular yoga practice helps to calm the mind and release stress and tension from the body. of these techniques helps the person to experience a sense of inner peace and tranquility. As a result, you can feel an apt environment for spiritual growth and self introspection.
  • While practicing yoga, one gets connected to the higher realm. And, one can feel the higher degree of reverence, trust and surrender in himself. A plethora of spiritual significance is ignited inside.
  • Regular yoga practice helps individuals in improving their intuition. It helps them in accessing their inner wisdom. Specifically, inner wisdom and intution insights guides the person towards the spiritual growth.

Yoga and spiritual growth go hand in hand. Nor spirituality is a religion neither it is a rocket science. It is a state of mind where there is a quest for searching the meaning of life and inner peace.

International Yoga Day

We celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June every year. Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi proposed this celebration during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

Moreover, World Yoga Day or International Yoga Day is celebrated every year around the world to promote the awareness about benefits of yoga worldwide.

This day is recognised to emphasize the holistic approach of yoga in promoting physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Infact, it also aims to foster global harmony, peace and solidarity by bringing people from diverse backgrounds together through the practice of yoga.

In 2024, the International Yoga Day will be celebrated on 21 June. This year we are completing the 10th edition of the defined day. The theme is Yoga for women Empowerment.

India and the world celebrated the festival of good health and spiritual awakening on 21st June 2023 as International Yoga Day. Last year we have theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbhkam.

Vasudhaiva Kutumbhkam is a sanskrit phrase which means whole Earth is our family. Here, the theme repsents that yoga for the welfare of all as one world -one family.

Ten principles of Yoga leads to Spirituality
